Composition :-
Streptomycin Sulphate                 200 gm
Equiv.to streptomycin base        160 gm
Properties :
* Streptomycin Sulphate is one member of aminoglycosides,it has a bactericidal activity against mainly G-ve bacteria, it exerts its action by inhibiting the protein synthesis at 30s ribosomal subunits disrupting RNA code producing abnormal peptides
*Parentrally it crosses all barriers.
Indications :
Treatment of respiratory & urogenital infections caused by G-ve bacteria sensitive to streptomycin as E-coil, salmonella, pasteurella.
Dosage and administration:
* for the active ingredient:
By I.M injection for cattle – horse – sheep & goat:
10 mg streptomycin base / kg.b.wt. once daily for 3-5 days.
* For the whole product:
200 gm of streptomycin sulphate in 500 ml water for injection reconstitute by adding sterile water to complete 500 ml.
Solution is 32% concentration each 1 ml contains 320 mg of streptomycin base.
- Cattle & Horse: 3 ml of the product sol. /100 kg.b.wt. by I.M.
- Sheep & Goat: 0.75 ml of the product sol. /20 kg b.wt.
Side Effects:
* None in recommended doses.
* Allergy-fever & skin rashes resulting from hyperscnsitivity.
* Affects 8 th cranial nerve causing auditory impairment & deafness.
* Nephrotoxicity is the main adverse event .

Contra – indications :
* Not to be used with other aminoglycosides.
* The otto toxic effect of aminoglycosides including streptomycin is potentiated by co-administration of ethacrynic acid, mannitol, furosemide & possibly other diuretics .
Precautions and warnings :
* Not to be used in cattle producing milk for human consumption.
* Hypersensitivity may occur in some spscies.
* Not be used for poultry.
* Not be used for pregnant animal.
Withdrawal Time:
Meat:30 days.
