Colistin   400
Dosage form: water soluble powder

Composition:
Each 1 g contain:
Colistin sulphate 166.66 mg
Equivalent to colistin 133.3 mg 
( Equi.  To 4 MIU ) 
Properties:
Colistin is a bactericidal polypeptide antibiotic belongs to polymyxin group. It  produces its antibacterial effect by interacting strongly with phospholipids in bacterial cell membrane & radically disturbed their permeability & function .
Colistin is active against gram negative bacteria including E. coli & Salmonella spp.
Indications:
It is used for treatment of gastro intestinal infection:
•Colibacillosis caused by E – coli susceptible to colistin.
•Salmonellosis caused by Salmonella spp. susceptible to colistin.
Target species:
Non ruminant Calves , swine & poultry.
Dosage & administration:
orally via drinking water.
Active ingredient
Non ruminant Calves & swine: 102,500 IU of colistin / kg b. wt.
Poultry: 61,500 IU of colistin / kg b. wt.


Whole produc
Non ruminant Calves  & swine: 0.025 g of the product /kg b. wt.  / 12 hours per day for 3 days.
Poultry : 0.0153 g of the product  / kg b. wt. per day for 3 days.
(Eq. to 0.15 g of the product / liter drinking water).
Warnings & precautions:
The medicated water should be prepared daily.
Avoid combination with muscle relaxant
Contra – indication:
Not to be used with cations (calcium , magnesium & manganese) and unsaturated fatty acids as colistin antagonized with them.
Side – effects:
Nausea, reduced appetite
Withdrawal time:
Non ruminant Calves: 14 day                                                  
Swine: 7 days.  
Poultry : zero days
Eggs: zero days                                                   
Storage:
Stored in dry place at temp. not exceed 30 °C to be used immediately after opening and reconstitution.
