Dipyrone (Metamizole)

Composition
Each 1 ml contains:

Properties
Dipyrone is a pyrazolone derivative similar to aminopyrine, thought to act like other non-steroidal agents by inhibiting cyclo-oxygenase-mediated production of prostaglandins. It has marked analgesic and antipyretic activity with slight anti-inflammatory effect, and reportedly antispasmodic activity against bradykinin-induced spasm of the intestinal tract.
Indications
Pain relief (colic, neuritis, neuralgia, tendovaginitis, and to calm animals during examination and treatment); inflammatory conditions (acute and chronic arthritis, lumbago, rheumatic disorders of muscles and joints); spastic conditions (colic, intestinal spasm, and abdominal or smooth muscle spasm).
Dosage & Administration
By I/M or slow I/V injection.
Active ingredient — Cattle: 50 mg/kg body weight. Horse: 10–20 mg/kg. Pigs: 50 mg/kg. Dogs & cats: 28 mg/kg.
Whole product — Cattle: 5 ml / 50 kg body weight. Horse: 10–20 ml (5–10 g) per adult horse. Pigs: 1 ml / 10 kg. Dogs & cats: 0.6 ml / 10 kg.
Warnings & Precautions
In horses, do not administer within 5 days of racing. Check blood picture after prolonged use. Not for use in poultry. Total daily dose should not exceed 300 mg/animal/day for dogs and cats, to prevent convulsions. Administer by I/M or slow I/V injection only — do not give by S/C injection.
Contraindications
Not for cattle producing milk for human consumption. Do not administer with phenylbutazone or barbiturate agents. Concomitant administration with chlorpromazine may cause serious hypothermia.
Side Effects
Agranulocytosis and leucopenia may develop with high doses.
